Sciatica

If you have been experiencing pain or numbness that originates in the lower back and travels down the leg, you could be suffering from Sciatica. Sciatica is a condition caused by irritation or pressure on the sciatic nerve in the lower back. The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down the hip, buttocks, back of the leg, and into the foot. Sciatica may be a result of one of the following conditions:

  • Spinal Injury or Wear and Tear
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Herniated Disc
  • Spinal Stenosis

Symptoms of Sciatica can vary based on the person. To some, the pain may be unbearable, while to others the pain may be described as irritating. Common symptoms of Sciatica include:

  • Pain on one side of the body, usually traveling from the buttocks down the leg
  • Pain that worsens with sitting
  • Burning, numbness, weakness, tingling, or difficulty in moving the leg or foot
  • A constant or sharp pain that may make walking or standing difficult
